A Big Change is Coming!
March 28. 2020 - I am both honored and pleased to announce that we have successfully created our new, corporate entity, "5-Alarm Task Force Corp." We have received the IRS's charitable classification of 501 (c)3, which means that any contributions of money or goods should be tax-deductible. (IMPORTANT - Please check with your tax advisor if your donations will be tax-deductible. It depends on how you submit your annual returns and if you itemize.)
This new status will allow us to raise funds for our foundation that will allow us to make contributions to worthy charitable causes that are connected with firefighters in particular and other first responders, as well. Additionally, we will work to create souvenirs relating to both our podcast and our charitable endeavors. Your purchases of this "swag" will also help us raise funds, especially for the NFFF, the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, which has so successfully supported the families of those firefighters who have made the ultimate sacrifice in protecting their communities, through numerous program, both for the family as a whole, as well as children of those firefighters. Moreover, funding will allow us to have a bigger voice as we fulfill our initial mission statement: "To promote firefighter health, wellness, and fitness-for-duty, as well as the Cancer & Behavioral Health Initiatives."
We are still in the formative stage, creating necessary by-laws and opening the necessary bank accounts. It will be then that we will be able to begin soliciting for financial support. We will be setting up an account on Patreon and on PayPal to make the donation process as simple and easy as possible.
I thank you for reading this post and hope that when the current tumultuous time ends, we will work together to help, support and do everything possible for the brave men and women of the fire service and our other public safety colleagues.

September 22, 2019 - This press release was released on Friday, September 20, 2019:
We are beyond grateful for this legislation introduced Friday, September 20th by Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH)
with bipartisan support from Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) specific to the PFAS in our turnout gear.
As you will see in the announcement below, Senator Shaheen has been a fierce and relentless fighter for PFAS
studies and testing for firefighters since learning of the amounts of PFAS in our gear in June 2018..
In the coming weeks we will see the results of Dr Peaslee's study on a near 20 year span of turnout gear, both new
and used. I have seen the shocking of this study. There is no doubt in my mind the fire service must be warned,
educated, tested, monitored and protected.
Without this funding we will not secure the studies required to understand the health effects of wearing the toxic soup
of PFOA a known carcinogen, PFOS, a known carcinogen,as well other PFAS in staggering amounts.
We have no alternatives at this time. Imagine being the firefighter who will reach for his/her PPE knowing they are
immediately exposing themselves to the staggering amounts of PFOA that is in their new, never-worn and their
used turnout gear. There is no other occupation in the nation whereby this is acceptable.
We are also seeking NFPA 'Fast Track' a PFAS protocol that not only educates firefighters about the PFAS in their gear,
but requires manufacturers to find alternatives to PFAS used in firefighter turnout gear.
We are seeking your support in asking that Congress approve the NDAA which will designate PFAS as a hazardous
substance. This will expedite the replacement coatings in our gear, as well as ensure safe disposal of the textiles like
turnout gear, and fund cleanup of the many PFAS contaminated military and non-military locations across the nation.
Please also share this interview with Senator Shaheen from WMUR as she discusses her bill, and Paul and I discuss
the need for action.

September 20, 2019 - If you're a regular listener of the show, you know that the podcast is dedicated to promoting firefighter health, wellness and the cancer and behavioral health initiatives. And we've discussed numerous paths to help avoid cancer in this job that we love!
Next week, the company, Source One MRO will air a webinar on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, September 23rd, 24th, or 25th regarding all manner of decon procedures that we should be following after every exposure. Many of us are proponents of the thought that today, we should treat every fire as a HazMat incident.
For more information or to register for one of the webinar sessions, visit sourceonemro.com/firefighter-decon-seminar.

August 27, 2018 - I apologize for the delay in posting new items, however the amount of work on social media to promote and monitor a crowdfunding campaign, took far my time than I expected. Now let's get on with the news:
1. In June 2018, my article, "Where Do I Find My Leadership," was published by FIREHOUSE Magazine on their website, FIREHOUSE.com. You can search for it there or, if you would like a copy, please send me an email to [email protected] and I'll be happy to send it to you.
2. While we're talking about articles, please remember that another of my articles, "My Passion for the Fire Service," is scheduled to be published in the September edition of "FIRE ENGINEERING." Again, if you would like a personal copy of the article, please drop me a line.
3. My podcast, "5-Alarm Task Force," began it's third season two weeks ago with Capt. Robby Owens (@averagejakeff on Twitter) discussing, "Tactics and Terminology" and last week, Shanna Perino (@ShannaPerino) returned to discuss the severe problem of hoarding and a new effort to meet that and other challengers that first responders face, "Community Risk Reduction." You'll find these two on the PODCAST tab of the website. Two interviews that are scheduled for this week is Tuesday, August 28th, I'll be speaking with Jeff Dill regarding the tragically high rate of firefighter suicides and on Thursday, I will welcome Heather Mazurkiewicz. the 2017 State of Florida Volunteer Firefighter of the Year and an activist with the Florida chapter of the Firefighter Cancer Support Network. Watch for the release of these two podcast the first week of September.

July 23, 2018 - WE HAVE LIFT-OFF! I am proud to announce that the crowdfunding campaign, "Help Me Save Those Who Save You," was launched this morning. If you did not have a chance to see the preview, don't worry about it. You can head directly to our campaign page at https://igg.me/at/5-AlarmTFPodcast.
The goal of this campaign is to raise $2,500.00. The money will go towards travel and admittance fees to several of the regional and/or national conferences, where I will record sound bites and interviews to bring back to the podcast. It will also be used for a camera with Wi-Fi capability, which will allow me to broadcast live from these locations. Some of the funds will also be used for promotional gear, e.g. t-shirts, hats, mugs, etc., for guests and for sale on this website. Finally, it will go toward the costs of having the podcast in the first place, broadband, the host services, etc.
I know there will be some of you who want to help, but do not have the extra funds to do so. THAT'S FINE! Because you can help me in another way! You can help spread the word around to your social media friends! That's the kind of advertising I could never afford. So, just a few keystrokes can go a long way to help us expand the mission of "5-Alarm Task Force."
Our goal has been and will continue to be our focus on first responder health, wellness, fitness-for-duty, the cancer initiative and the behavioral awareness support program. We have been lucky enough to have had some amazing guests on this podcast and I've been busy all during our brief hiatus, booking more for you starting in mid-August.
While I can do the production, interviews, etc. alone, I cannot conduct this campaign alone! I need your help in either or both ways that I've mentioned here. With listeners all across the globe, each and every one of you plays an important part in this podcast. When you listen to one of our terrific guests, I hope you either share the link with your friends or bring what you have learned to your fire or rescue service. Doing so helps fire-rescue personnel all around the world.
Thank you for being such an important part of "5-Alarm Task Force!" And stay safe out there!

July 9. 2019 - We are all aware of the connection between firefighters and our elevated risks of various forms of cancer. Our comrades in Seattle have had long-held concerns regarding Station 31, referring to it as the "Cancer House." FIREHOUSE.com has an interesting and very important article regarding the situation there and I urge you to read it at this link: https://www.firehouse.com/safety-health/cancer-prevention/news/21012475/seattle-fire-department-station-31-cancer-house-study-firefighters.
Remember - Always wear your PPE - Always DECON whenever possible and keep up-to-date with your medical evaluations. Working together, WE can BEAT cancer!

Yesterday, I received some very pleasant and surprising news. An article that I wrote entitled, "My Passion for the Fire Service," was accepted for publication in Fire Engineering Magazine. I am truly humbled to receive this honor as so many of the people I considered great mentors and leaders in the fire service, both while I was a firefighter and in the time since, have had numerous articles published in this same magazine.
My sincere appreciation to Editor-in-Chief, Bobby Halton and the editorial team at Fire Engineering.

May 2018
Welcome to the Dalmatian Productions and “5-Alarm Task Force,” website, v2.0!
We first launched our original site through our partnership with our podcast host, Podomatic in San Francisco, last December. In February, I was contacted by our representative Matt DeMonaco and Podomatic designer, Juan Francisco Veramendi, who told me how much the work I was doing for the fire service and how deeply they both respect firefighters and all first responders. With that, they suggested a team effort to redesign the website to be a more powerful presence on the web and to attract more visitors and keep them engaged on the site.
Though Matt had expressed his admiration from the moment I explained what I was doing and who I was doing it for, I had no idea that these two gentlemen cared that much, that they would dedicate their own time to this effort.
As you visit, you’ll see a clean and fresh look and easier transitions throughout. You’ll also find a more intelligent presentation and then, the ability to choose either to continue reading further or moving on to the next selection, article, etc.
We have also added the long-promised Podcast Guests’ Page. Here, we have listed those guests who offer products or services to our listeners, alphabetically. This will make it easier for you to find a particular guest, read a brief (most of the time) bio and see what product or services they offer. (Please note…this listing is completely free for my guests. They pay no advertising fee or commission for their inclusion.)
On the “5-Alarm Task Force” podcast page, you will still be able to access our entire library of over sixty podcasts from the past year and a half. And though our second season is winding down, we are already looking forward to bringing you new guests and new topics for Season Three.
We always strive to find areas for improvement. We would very much like to hear from you after you’ve paid us a visit. Just head over to the “ABOUT” tab and select, “CONTACT,” and drop us a line.
If you would like to help us continue to evolve and bring you the latest news and top guests, please visit our page on Patreon, at www.patreon.com/Dalmatprod. Your interest, dedication and support are sincerely appreciated.
As always - Stay Safe!
